Community Events
Here at Tottington Primary School we are proud of our close links with the community. Here are just a sample of some of the things we have been up to!
Interfaith Week Art Competition 2023
We asked the children to use their imaginations and their creativity to create a logo to reflect what they think respect between religions means to them, and to show how different religions often share the same values and ideas.
The children produced so many fabulous logos!
The winning entries have been displayed in school. Huge well done to everyone, fantastic work!
Remembrance Day
Every year, pupils and staff from Tottington Primary School attend our village's Remembrance Day parade. We are proud to be a part of this community, and feel it is so important to remember those that lost their lives in War efforts.
Fallen Soldiers from Tottington in WW1
In preparation for Remembrance Day, a group of our children visited Gallipoli Gardens and the Fusilier's Museum to pay their respects. Mrs Harrison, along with children from our school council and Super T's made 181 dolly peg soldiers, one for each of the fallen soldiers from the WW1. These peg soldiers have been displayed in the gardens.
Whitehead Gardens Rotary Project
Pupils from Year 5 worked alongside the Rotary Club of Tottington and Bury West, to replant borders in one of our local parks, Whitehead Gardens. This is a project we revisit regularly, and the children are always proud of their contribution to improving our local community. They had a great time planting, watering, weeding and learning some new skills!
Moorfields Residential Home
Pupils from Tottington Primary School visit our local residential care home regularly. At Christmas, choir performed some carols to spread festive cheer! Pupils have also been creating memory books for residents, who have enjoyed sharing their memories with them. Of course, we never go empty handed, and the children have enjoyed decorating cakes to share! At Christmas, staff also donated gifts for residential care homes in our community.
Caritas
At Tottington Primary School we have a long tradition of working in partnership with St Anne's church in Tottington. Every week in December, we travel through the village, escorting the holy family to various businesses, in order to raise money and awareness of an important charity; Caritas. Caritas works across the North West, providing accomodation and food for the homeless.
History Club
Each year our History club work on a community project to develop historical skills and find out more about our wonderful area. Last year, our project centred on the bombing of Tottington in 1944 by a German doodlebug. Pupils researched online, using archives, and interviewing survivors to piece together the story of the event. Our research was collated and displayed at St Anne's church hall, where a cabinet containing artefacts linked to the event are on display.
