The intent of our English Curriculum
At Tottington Primary School we are passionate about ensuring our children acquire the skills to promote high standards of language and literacy. Our mission is to equip children with the necessary skills in spoken and written language that develops a love of reading through high quality texts. Through the use of quality texts we expose them to range of different authors. We want the children of Tottington to become well rounded citizens in the community and wider world who appreciate our rich and varied literacy heritage.
Through combining the Early Years Framework and National Curriculum and our own core values, our TPS English Curriculum meets the needs of our pupils. It will enable the children to read easily, fluently and with good understanding. The children will understand and, develop and use a comprehensive and diverse vocabulary.
We will give our children the building blocks to read, speak, and communicate appropriately to a wide range of audiences. The children will acquire the skills through our TPS curriculum to develop a wide range of vocabulary, understanding and grammar.
We want to inspire our children to confidently elaborate and explain clearly their understanding and ideas and become competent in the arts of speaking and listening.
Through our well-planned, ambitious English curriculum, our children will acquire the knowledge to transfer these skills they have been taught to be not only successful during their time at TPS but beyond school and into their adult lives.
