What are the aims of our History curriculum?
At Tottington Primary School we are passionate about promoting high standards of historical understanding. Through combining the Early Years and National Curriculum with our TPS core values, our ambitious History curriculum equips all our children with the necessary skills in historical enquiry.
By the end of their time at Tottington Primary School, our children will have developed a deep and broad knowledge of British and World History. Our children will understand the concepts of continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance to make connections. We place great importance on their understanding of historical vocabulary ensuring they can use it effectively and accurately. They will understand how and why contrasting arguments and interpretations of the past have been constructed. Our pupils have a secure understanding and respect for diversity, social responsibility and have a sense of how the past has shaped their future. They will leave with an understanding of how their locality has changed and how the past has very much shaped where they live today.
Through our well-planned, and sequenced History curriculum our children acquire the vital knowledge and skills required for the next stage of their learning journey and on into adulthood. This enables the children of Tottington Primary School to become successful, active and positive members of their local community and wider world.
